We use BPA free (white) composite filling material, and we take amalgam removal very seriously to protect you and our staff from mercury vapour that is released during removal. We NEVER place silver amalgam fillings so you can rest assured that you will always be getting nice, healthy, white filling material. Plastic fillings last an average of 6 to 8 years, but this can vary depending on the size of the fillings and other factors.
We make porcelain and gold crowns, and we can even do porcelain or gold fillings! This is a 2 step process, involving 2 separate appointments. Crowns can be thought of almost as an enamel replacement for teeth that have been heavily damaged or filled in the past. Crowns protect the tooth by providing one solid covering that is exposed to the mouth, reducing the risk of further damage or issues with fillings falling out. Crowns can last much longer than a filling can on average, although cavities that get underneath the crown can result in the loss of the crown (it will need to be removed to get all of the decay from underneath). Bridges are very similar to crowns in that they cover over teeth, but bridges cover 2 teeth with one or more attached false porcelain teeth in the middle. Bridges are used to replace missing teeth. Porcelain or gold fillings are tougher than a composite or plastic filling would be, and so they can last longer, meaning fewer times a tooth will need to be drilled on in its lifetime.
